In a move that can only be described as “stunning” (or is that sunning?), the IRS recently published new regulations that impose a new 10% excise tax on anyone who uses an indoor tanning facility. Don’t you have to ask yourself, “Who thinks this stuff up? Haven’t they got anything better to do in Washington?” Certainly the amount of revenue collected will pale in comparison (I couldn’t help myself) to the annual increase in the deficit caused by the administration of this tax.
Rumors abound that there is a proposal to follow that will tax anyone sunbathing or caught driving with the top down on their convertible during daylight hours. Clearly there is a trend to promoting an underground economy, mobile, illicit tanning parlors. Spray on tan manufacturers must have one powerful lobby.
